For over a decade, Dr. Christina Bergmann studied how infants learn language with stations in Paris and the Netherlands. In her work she combined computational modeling with large-scale, collaborative approaches to make developmental science more robust and reproducible (co-leading initiatives such as ManyBabies (https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.manybabies.org/__;!!D9dNQwwGXtA!SDSNkm_fvm7QtDzK2yAkN16ssryHTtfc4sVYQAXFm43_3z6pntj0g-MtvmEIW7tg8wPU910bvOYWSXzxpuDfmT6oBxL3XG0$ ) and MetaLab). Along the way, she became increasingly invested in open science, mentoring, and helping others navigate their own academic paths.

In 2022, she moved from research into recruiting and talent management at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.hs-osnabrueck.de/__;!!D9dNQwwGXtA!SDSNkm_fvm7QtDzK2yAkN16ssryHTtfc4sVYQAXFm43_3z6pntj0g-MtvmEIW7tg8wPU910bvOYWSXzxpuDfmT6o4WizsTw$ ), where she now supports early-career researchers, particularly those from underrepresented groups, in exploring whether a professorship at a university of applied sciences is the right path for them, and how to get there.

In this workshop, Dr. Bergmann draws at times surprising parallels between designing large, collaborative infant studies and supporting candidates for professorships on their path. Participants will learn about intersectoral mobility (leaving academia and maybe coming back), what recruiting actually looks like "under the hood" and how to identify their own strengths and possible career paths.
