WoRLD: Workshop on Reading, Language and Deafness

The Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (www.bcbl.eu) is pleased to announce WoRLD: Workshop on Reading, Language and Deafness. Our aim with this workshop is to bring together experts and researchers on the neurocognition of language in deaf individuals and to facilitate the transfer of knowledge between stakeholders and scientists.
The topics of the workshop include language processing and development in the context of deafness, taking in sign language and spoken language in oral and written form.
WoRLD will take place from Thursday, October 18th to Saturday, October 20th 2018 in San Sebastian, Spain.

The workshop is split into two parts. Registration for the scientific part (first two days) automatically includes access to the applied part (third day). Separate registration is available to attend the third day only (http://www.bcbl.eu/events/worldpractice2018).

Conference program (part one): WoRLD - Research perspectives (October 18th and 19th)

For each of the two first days, invited speakers will discuss theoretical perspectives and empirical findings on issues relating to the neurocognition of language in the context of deafness. Their keynote talks will address language processing for reading in deaf individuals, for sign language, and language development with cochlear implants. The keynote talks will be complemented by talks and poster presentations selected from abstract submissions. Note that the language for these two days will be English; International Sign interpretation will be provided if required. Complimentary registration is available for accompanying sign language interpreters.

Conference program (part two): WoRLD - From theory to practice (20th October)

The second part of the Workshop aims to provide a meeting space for researchers and stakeholders, including deaf individuals, educators, practitioners, and parents. There will be talks by international experts followed by panel discussions to promote dialogue between invited experts and the audience. The languages for this day will be English, Spanish and LSE (Spanish Sign Language); interpretation between all three languages will be provided.
Please consult the website for the Theory to Practice day for more information.
