Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 30 worldwide. An increasing number of individuals are surviving TBI due to medical advancements, but these same individuals are faced with long-term physical, cognitive, and emotional consequences that may even last a lifetime. The objective of this talk is to provide the audience with a global perspective of the presenter’s recent research with this population and their family caregivers. His work centers on studying the short and long-term psychosocial outcomes of individuals with TBI – including quality of life, sexuality, marital, and employment outcomes. He has studied effective cognitive rehabilitation techniques for these individuals. He examines the impact of TBI on family caregivers. Finally, he is working on validation of key psychosocial measures and standardization of neuropsychological tests in order to ensure accurate measurement of function and impact.
